The most awaited youth festival of the year, Jhankaar 2011, organized by Panjab University Campus Students’ Council was flagged off with mesmerizing fashion show and scintillating performances by the students of Panjab University.
The three day festival was inaugurated by Mr. Hira Sodhi, senior congress leader. The students of the University Institute of Fashion Technology stole the show by their collections, which comprised of dresses made up of chocolate wrappers and a special collection of velvet Indian costumes. The collections by the students were interspersed with modeling by professionals models. The collections were designed, produced, choreographed and presented by the students themselves. Performances by the Departments of Laws and Mathematics were a combination of Indian and western dances raising the crescendo, followed by foot tapping song items, rock bands and rap numbers.The entire programme was compeered by the students of the School of Communication Studies, Anchal,Varun and Japjeet.The evening concluded with a medley dance performance which provided complete entertainment to the crowds that had gathered to cheer, and enjoy the first gala opening night of their favourite festival. The chief guest Mr. Hira Sodhi expressed his happiness saying ,”I am very happy to have been invited by the Punjab University Campus Students Council “. He also expressed his gratitude by saying that he would be very happy to return at any possible opportunity.
Jhankar continues for the next two days with myriad activities during the day and entertaining evenings to follow.The competitions lined up for tomorrow are dance , music and fine arts items. Jasbir Jassi is slated to perform in the evening.
