Jhankaar 2011, the annual youth festival of the Panjab University Campus Student’s Council (PUCSC) begins today. The three day fest starts today with its inaugural function at 11 am in the Gymnasium Hall in the Panjab University campus. The chief guest for the occasion is S K Sharma, ADGP, Punjab. For today, events like poem writing and recitation contest will proceed after lightening the holy lamp at the Students Center at 2:30 pm.The evening will witness vibrant colours altogether at one ground as university students will perform various cultural items for the guests. Fashion show hosted by UIFT students and Rock night by the Ice and Fire band will be there to enthrall everyone. The function is scheduled to start at 7 pm and last till 10 in the night at the law ground.
Yesterday, the PUCSC took out ‘Jaago’ on the campus. Girls dressed in colourful attires accompanied by student council members went to all hostels. Started in 1981, Jhankaar, being organised by PUCSC, is a three day annual event which showcases the literary and cultural talent of the students of Punjab University. The event will continue till March 29.
“A fest where culture and creativity meets,” says Harsh Tuli, one of the organisers, where classical dances, shabad, poetry recitation, extempore, cartooning and paint your face contests rule. With 10-15 colleges participating in the fest, this year will have loads of musical events where group songs, ghazal, folk songs and folk orchestra competitions would dominate. Other events include one act play, skit, mimicry, quiz, collage making, poster making and elocution and much more.
