CHANDIGARH, APRIL 23:Former senior vice-president of the Indian Hockey Federation Dr Mahinder Singh Malik, IPS, (Retd) today urged the apex sports body of the country, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to immediately take over the IHF and constitute an ad hoc committee to manage the hockey activities. The ad hoc committee should be constituted with IOA president Suresh Kalmai as its chairman. Hockey Olympians and internationals as well as personalities with ‘impeccable records" should be included in the ad hoc panel.
With IHF secretary general Jothikumaran being caught red-handed accepting bribe for inclusion of a player in the Indian team for Azlan Shah Cup, in a sting operation by a TV channel, corruption in selection procedure has brought disgrace to the country at the ‘global level’.
Former Director General of Police, Haryana, and manager of the victorious 1998 Asian Games hockey team, Dr Malik said that he had been receiving reports of corruption and shabby deals in the functioning of the IHF but there was on ”conclusive proof" .
Saying that it is the "collective responsibility", Haryana Hockey Association president and Secretary General of the Haryana Olympic Association, Dr Malik requested Mr MS Gill, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India to immediately demand resignation not only of president Kanwar Pal Singh Gill but the entire IHF team.
