22 July:To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Carmel Convent School , Sector 9 an Interschool Maths competition was organized in which eleven prestigious schools from the region participated. Various schools like Sacred Heart, St. Johns, St. Kabir, St. Stephens, Chandigarh Baptist, SD Public, DAV Public, Saupin’s School, St. Xaviers and Hansraj Public School participated in the competition. Though carmel convent won the overall quiz but gave away the trophy to the runners up, DAV Sector-8 which was declared first, St. Johns bagged the second position and St. Kabir the third. The competition comprised of rounds such as The Warm-up Round, Arithmetic, Geometry, Puzzle and mathematical reasoning. The students were judged upon conceptional knowledge, basic intelligence, mental ability and wits and presence. It was the Brain Child of Sr. Maria Christi, Principal of Carmel Convent School, who said "Certain areas in students are yet to be explored in studentsand this quiz is an effort to achieve overall knowledge in maths.To do so we need to go beyond what is taught in school.
" Mrs. Rekha Vij a teacher of Hansraj Public School shared her views saying "It is a learning experience for the kids."Mr rajneesh from Saupins said," such quizzes are helpful as they help students to overcome their maths phobia"Rajan Singh and Archit Jund from St. Kabir Public School who participated in the quiz said," we are very happy to be a part of this well conducted quiz and presentation".The winners were, 1st-Porshiya Mangal and Arnav Jindal (DAV sec 8) 2nd Dhruv Sarwal and Dhruv Chawla (st. johns sec 26) 3rd Rajan singh and Archit Jund (st. kabir sec 26).According to Porshiya mangal,"it was an interesting experience and would help to increase mental ability and regain lost interest in maths".
