Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh, Dec. 03 : The NSS units of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36 B, Chandigarh observed “International Day of Persons with Disabilities “. The function started with an introductory speech by Chief Guest Mr. Jagdeep Jain, Member, State Legal Services Authority, and judge of permanent Lok Adalat, U.T. Chandigarh in which he emphasised on the social and moral responsibilities towards the disabled people. NSS volunteer Sabina shared her views on needs of persons with disabilities. This was followed by an enlightening talk on the Legal Aspects of Disabled Children by Advocate Mr. Pankaj Mohan Kansal. He emphasised on the issues around disabilities and the dignity, rights and well being of disabled persons. Dr. Jyoti Khanna, Principal of the college highlighted the difficulties faced by the disabled persons in the society and appreciated the contributions made by them to
the community.
A drawing and painting competition was also organised for the special children on the occasion.Children from Institute for the blind Sector-26 and Mother Teresa missionaries of charity presented a poem and a group song “Apnon ko to is duniya mein”. Tulsi, Goldy, Parmeet and Mukesh sang motivational songs to mark the day. Mr. Bikram Singh Rana , State Laison Officer, U.T, Chandigarh in his speech stressed on empathy rather than sympathy for the differently abled people.
The function concluded with distribution of prizes to the differently abled children.
