Chandigarh , 6 Nov :Saakaar Foundation, an architectural organisation is organising an International Conference on the “Emerging Trends in Landscape Architecture” on Sunday, 9th November, 2008 at the Government Museum & Art Gallery Auditorium in Sector 10-C, Chandigarh. It is being organised in active association with UNESCO, Swiss Arts Council, Archi Design Perspective, and Foundation for Architectural and Environmental Awareness. Chandigarh Tourism is providing free hospitality to all the speakers. This shall be a first-ever International Conference on Landscape Architecture in Chandigarh. Eminent landscape architects from Switzerland, Turkey and India have been invited to speak on different aspects of the subject from their experiences and to make audio-visual presentations based on their architectural work.
Mr. Salman Khurshid, Former Minister of State for External Affairs and a Senior Congress Leader will be the Chief Guest.
The Conference is the brain child of Architect-Author Sarbjit Bahga who feels that this conference shall be of great value not only for India but at the international level also as the issues being deliberated upon are common to whole of the World.
Mr. HS Johl, President, Environment Society Punjab shall give the introduction to the Conference Theme. Mr. Sudhir Sarup, Editor Archi Design Perspective shall deliver the Welcome Note. The Keynote address shall be delivered by Dr. SS Bhatti, Former Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture, he shall delineate a refreshing vision of Landscape Architecture that is both holistic and futuristic.
Amongst the speakers, Prof. Günther Vogt, Practising Landscape Architect of Switzerland shall give an audio-visual presentation on “European Landscape Architecture”. Dr. Mustafa Var who is a Professor at Karadeniz Technical University at Turkey shall speak on “Urban Transformation Implementation”. According to him, urban transformation projects have been seen as important issues to get rid of problematic slum areas by giving them a green texture.
Another landscape architect from Switzerland, Mr Andy Schonholzer shall speak on “Urban Transformation Processes”.
Mr. Olivier Lasserre, a landscape architect from Switzerland shall give his lecture on “Landscape Structure as Pattern for the Project”. He shall compare the landscape patterns of Switzerland with Chandigarh, with respect to various issues.
Prof. Samir Mathur, an eminent landscape architect from New Delhi shall deliver his talk on “Cities, Open Spaces and Modernity”.
Eminent architects: Jit Kumar Gupta, PR Luthra, SS Sekhon will also participate in the deliberations. Ar Archana Chaudhary shall be the master of ceremonies. The event is being supported by Pest Control of India Pvt. Ltd., Crete Industries, Ambuja Cement and Steel Authority of India.
According to Architect Surinder Bahga of Saakaar Foundation, “We shall compile the proceedings and recommendations of this conference and submit them to Chandigarh Administration for implementation”.
