The INDO US program on Comprehensive stroke centre training started off on 9thDecember morning with a symposium on the evaluation and management of hemorrhagic stroke.Dr Rohit Bhatia from AIIMS spoke on the emergency department evaluation while Dr Vineeta Singh from USA elaborated on the ICU care of stroke patients.Dr S.K Gupta from PGIMER discussed the various surgical options and Dr Aneesh Singhal from USA highlighted the recent advances in hemorrhagic stroke care. This was followed by an inspiring talk on the basic aspects of transcranial doppler(TCD) imaging by Dr Andrei Alexandrov.A hands on TCD training was made available for the delegates under the expert supervision of Dr Andre,Dr. Anne Alexandrov and Dr Dheeraj Khurana.
The afternoon session dealt on the stroke characteristics of India with Dr Shyamal K Das highlighting differences from the west.
Dr Subash Kaul and Dr Jeyaraj Pandian discussed the current status and the future outlook of comprehensive stroke centre care and stroke programs in India.
The program was formally inaugurated in the evening in the presence of Prof. R C Sobti (Vice ChancellorPunjabUniversity),
the Chief guest of the function and Dr K K Talwar (Director ,PGIMER).This was followed by a cultural event by Abhinava dance group from Bangalore.
