CHANDIGARH, OCT 29 :Hosts Punjab (India) led Punjab (Pakistan) by a narrow one-point lead (6.50-5.50) on the second day of the third India-Pakistan Inter-Punjab Golf Championship for the Pun-Aab Cup at the sprawling Chandigarh Golf Course here on Wednesday. The visitors were trailing 2-4 on first day.
India today began with a win as Angad Cheema and Raghav Bhandari beat Pakistan pair of Danyaal Jehangir and Abdul Zahoor and collected one point.
The Pakistan pair of Safdar Khan and Aadil Jehangir hit back and defeated Indian pair of H.S. Kang and Aman Guron on the 18th hole. Sandeep Sandhu and R.S. Sandhu were outgolfed by Pakistan’s Sardar Murad and Mohsin Anwar on the 16th hole having conceded a point.
Experienced Suman Puri and J.S. Bakshi scampered home with a valuable half point on the 18th hole, leaving the pairing of Murad Khan and Saleem Raza of Pakistan to settle for half a point too. The next match saw Col. A.D. Singh and I.P.S. Mann of India savoured yet another victory today when they beat Shafique Bhatti and Dr. Zahid.
In the last match of the day, Indian pair of Col. Iqbal Singh and Brig. G.J. Singh lost to Col. Jameel and Alam Sethi on the 18th hole in the last match of the day.
Today, the delegates played a round of golf with mixed four-balls consisting of the visitors and the hosts. The winner in the gentlemen’s category was Anil Gakhar with 41 points. Capt. J.S. Sahi was runner-up with 40 points (better back nine) and second runner-up was D.P. Bajaj with 40 points as well.
Pakistan’s Khasfa Zafar Ahmed emerged winner in the ladies section with 44 points followed by Chandigarh’s Rabiya Gill with 37 points.
