Chandigarh, Kalyani Singh, Msc 1st :This ceremony was followed by laying foundation stone of the ‘Herbal Garden’ by the Vice Chancellor Panjab University, Prof. Dr. R.C. Sobti, in the college wherein 25 herbs have been introduced viz Ashwagandha, kalmegh, Aparajita, , Chitrak, Pepper mint, Lemon grass, Vacha, Satavari, Brahmi booti, Aloe vera, Karpoor haldi, Ram tulsi, Sham tulsi, Hibiscus, Giloe etc .
Medicinal trees like Rudraksh, Laxmi taru, Harar, Arjun, Har shingaar, Plumeria, Amla, Bel patra, Buddha belly bamboos etc. Lotus Pond demonstrated at the herbal garden suggests inception of pond ecosystem. The garden has been incepted in collaboration with U.T. Forest Department.
Prof. Dr. R.C. Sobti planted the first sapling of Rudraksh in the garden. The tiny tots of Chaitanya Laboratory Nursery School associated with the Child Development department of the college also planted sapling of Shaitan wood and recited a poem ‘kaise chana bote hai?’ The members of the students’ council planted Arjun and the faculty members planted Harar. The office staff and the malies of the college planted various saplings too. The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of the Environment Society of the college. The Principal extended her gratitude towards Mr. Ishwar Singh, Director Environment and Conservator Forests, Chandigarh Administration for extending valuable support for the creation of Herbal Garden.
