Chandigarh, September 04: In the coming three to four months, all 106 Government schools in tricity Chandigarh territory will be fully equipped to provide safe drinking water to the children. This project of installation of Water Filters, taken up by Rotary Club Chandigarh & their partner Rotary Club Of Coral Gables, USA has been formally inaugurated today by the Shri.Ram Niwas Secretary Education Chandigarh Administration along with DPI School P.K Sharma, President Rotary Club Arvind Mahajan , PRIP R K Saboo and other eminent members of Rotary club, Principal, staff, faculty and students of Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 20 D, which is the first school to have aqua water filter in its premises. Gradually all Government Schools will be covered under this project in due course of time.
HS appreciated the efforts of Rotary club for this endeavor for making the schools fully equipped with safe drinking water. With the installation of this, around 2 lac students of various schools will have filtered water to drink. Mr.R.K.Saboo and President Rotary Club also thanked the Administration and said that this little endeavor shall go a long way not only in providing clean water to children but this action will also make aware the students to emulate good deeds in their lives.
The inauguration was followed by a gupshup session. Throwing light on the Personal hygiene, entailing brushing teeth twice in a day, keeping hands clean, trimming fingernails alike were amongst the topics of discussion today. Secretary Education taught how personal hygiene can affect other people. Students who do not wash their hands, for example, can pass infections or viruses on to other people. In addition to this they were also asked to refrain from aerated drinks, uncovered, unhygienic food available in the street. He emphasized that they should drink healthy beverages like milk, lassi, nimbu pani and eat green leafy vegetables .The principal was asked it to make it mandatory for the students to consume the iron capsule after the Mid day meal in the school itself.
The students were accustomed to the Interesting and Useful Water Facts that how essential is water to lead a disease free life. Besides this, student were educated about Fundamental rights and duties, constitution of India and civic sense that how civic sense in an individual makes him a civilized citizen of a country, keeping the environment and tourist spots litter free, neat and clean, students should be friends to trees as they are a source of oxygen and hence a life provider. Students also pledged not to pluck flowers.
While enlightening students on respecting women and tourists, secretary asked them not to indulge into eve teasing and help both national and international tourists if they accost them. He further added that they are citizens of India, which has the oldest civilization and existed 5000 years ago also and known to the world for its Heritage and culture therefore its duty of all of us to protect the heritage and culture.
Secretary also encouraged students to do physical activities or take up any sports, listen to any news channel, enhance their knowledge by reading newspapers so that they can take any competitive exams. In the end Children took a pledge to lead a drug-free life.
At the concluding of the programme, the Home Secretary with the other senior officials and prominent Rotarians planted Saplings in the premises of GMSSS 20 and flagged off a cycle rally, held with a message to save Ozone layer.
