Chandigarh, July 11: In pursuant to Rule 50 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 as notified by the Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to introduce High Security Registration Plate System in India, the Transport Department, UT Chandigarh, on 11th July, 2011, notifies “The implementation of the High Security Registration Plates in the Union Territory of Chandigarh Scheme, 2011”.
The scheme shall come into force in UT Chandigarh from 1st August, 2011 in case of new vehicles. As far as already registered old vehicles are concerned the task of implementation of scheme shall be completed by the vehicle owners within two years from 1st August, 2011.The High Security Registration Plate shall be fastened on the front and rear of the vehicle. In case of three and four wheelers, a Third Registration Plate in the form of a self destructive sticker shall be affixed on the wind shield of the vehicle.
All the vendors eligible under the “Motor Vehicles (New High Security Registration Plates) Order, 2001” and under “Rule 50 of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989“ shall be able to sell High Security Registration Plates to the vehicles registered with RLA UT Chandigarh. The vendors should also possess a valid “Type Approval Certificate” issued by any of the testing agencies authorized by the Government of India.
It is the responsibility of the vehicle owners to procure the High Security Registration Plates (and the Third Registration Plate as the case may be) from any of the eligible vendors. The vehicle owners shall also bring a person to fasten/affix the High Security Registration Plates to his/her vehicle. It is mandatory that the fastening/affixing of the High Security Registration Plates (and the Third Registration Plate as the case may be) on the vehicle shall be done within the premises of the Registering and Licensing Authority, UT Chandigarh, Sector 17, UT Chandigarh, or at the office of SDM (East) Industrial Area, Phase I, Chandigarh or SDM (South), Sector 42, Chandigarh in the presence of the Registering and Licensing Authority or his authorized representative.
Only after the High Security Registration Plates are fastened/affixed to the vehicle and the vehicle is found fit to ply on road, Registration Certificate shall be given to the vehicle owner.
Non compliance of “The implementation of the High Security Registration Plates in the Union Territory of Chandigarh Scheme, 2011” by the vehicle owners, shall invite action as provided under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The vehicle owners should note that the High Security Registration Plates Scheme in UT Chandigarh shall be implemented from 1st August, 2011 in case of the new vehicles and in case of the already registered old vehicles, the vehicle owners shall implement the High Security Registration Plates Scheme within two years from 1st August, 2011.
