CHANDIGARH, April 6, 2008:Our No Vehicle day has been slow in taking off in spite of the fact that the VC, DUI, Dean Sciences, Dean Foreign Students are often seen cycling. Friends at times even forget the first Monday of Month & our WHITE AMBASSADORS are also seen moving. Let all officials, Deans, Senators, Chairpersons set an example by announcing their days of walking & cycling on PU. I have a feeling lots of them want to do it, need to do it on medical advice but on peer pressure, social compulsions keep on using vehicles. We may need our Professor Jitendra Mohan to be a more active Environmental Psychologist to get us out of the mental barriers coming in the way of walking & cycling on PU campus.
Yesterday I walked to a dinner in sector 15 & found a youngster Professor from CRRID who had taken a rickshaw from his residence in sector 7 to come as he considered it "environment friendly".Today finding full pages dedicated to health, environment and related issues, I appeal to all colleagues, students and staff & families on PU campus to walk & cycle & be seen doing it frequently.
Can we have an interactive web page on PU website with names of all such health & environment enthusiasts who are silently taking care of "Health bhi, environment bhi"; if we go in a few more candlelight processions or likes of these for Central University status, I may add "CENTRAL STATUS BHI".
