CHANDIGARH, OCT 26 :A fine half century by Simrat Bawa (74) helped HDFC Bank XI beat Fortis XI by 41 runs in the ongoing IInd MG Cup League Cricket Tournament, being organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, HDFC XI made a fine start as their openers were put on 36 runs in just five overs for the first wicket fell. Simrat Bawa took batted sensibly and engineered HDFC XI’s well-deserved victory. Bawa executed brilliant strokes all over the field. He was quick to get to his half century in just 34 balls.
He had to restrain himself as wickets kept falling at the other end. Simrat Bawa also fell towards the end of the innings but he had placed his team in a comfortable position. HDFC Bank XI mustered 178 for 7 wickets in allotted 25 overs.
In reply, Fortis XI suffered an early jolt as they lost their opener in the very first over itself with the scoreboard reading 10 runs. Neeraj Rana took command of the batting. He stayed at the wicket for quite some time for his defiant knock of 47. Fortis XI could score 137 for 7 in 25 overs.
Madan Lal was the wrecker- in chief- as he scalped 3 wickets giving away 13 runs. He was ably supported by all-rounder Ravinder Nain who also took 3 wickets for 33 runs.

In the second match of the day, Godrej CC defeated United Sports Club by 35 runs. Pushpinder also made a valuable contribution of 37 runs. The victory was made possible due to fine batting performance by Jai Kapil who made unbeaten 45. Thereafter their bowlers bowled out their rival team for 120 in 21.2 overs in reply to Godrej Club’s 155 for 4 in 25 overs
