Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh, 10th October, 2008 :Efforts are being made by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU), Hisar to bring soil fungus from abroad to increase soil fertility in the State of Haryana. This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor of HAU, Dr. J.C. Katyal while addressing farmers in a fair organised in the premises of the office of ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’, Sirsa.
He said that sustainable cultivation was the need of the hour. The farmers should pay heed to such trivial matters as could increase agriculture production. He gave the farmers five tips of sustainable cultivation, namely seed treatment, in right quantity and timely use of fertilizers and water, timely advise regarding agricultural techniques and timely sowing of the crops. Following these tips, agriculture production could be increased considerably, he added.
Dr. Katyal pointed out that Sirsa was a pioneer district in the production of cotton in the State and efforts are being made to increase wheat production in the district to make it number one
district in the wheat production as well. He congratulated the farmers of the district on using modern agricultural techniques.
Dr. R.K. Malik, Extension Education Director, urged the farmers to adopt the cultivation of BT cotton. It being an early maturing variety, the wheat sowing could be started from November 15, which would accrue financial benefit to the farmers.
