Anubhuti Mehta ,Principal, K V: Guru-Student ritual has had been into existence since ages, but who values these days is in the question. Indian culture is vast and has always taught us to respect teachers and elders. With introduction of western culture to our system there are a lot of changes in the society in terms of teaching have been introduced.
There are certain student-oriented changes implemented in the schools. For instance syllabus have been made vast, new teaching methods have been introduced, CBSE methods have been revised, extra curricular activities have been implemented etc.
Whereas, the change in the family sizes has been into existence nowadays there is a sudden change in the way a student thinks. Due to nuclear families student has got an open atmosphere. Parents are playing a dual role of parents and grand parents. They are providing rituals and ethics to their kids these days, whereas in old ages it was a responsibility of grand parents at home. But, as both the parents are working for their living, so kids are getting aloof from the moral values and principles.
Kids bring cell phones, though they are not allowed in schools, but you cannot keep a check if the mobile is on silent mode. So the rest of the part is being played by the SMS exchange. Kids when are not aware the negative side of the mobile phones, they get the gadgets from their parents. It is the responsibility of the parents to teach kids not to use it improperly.
Parents should teach their kids to use the gadgets properly and also the utilization of kids’ spare time in an effective manner. Some go to internet while the break in their tuition timings and they make friends on internet in that time. And, if the school becomes a bit uneasy with the kid and give him or her any punishment, parents complain.
Certain new methods of teaching have been inculcated in the schools and number of students per class has been increased without providing the extra infrastructure. This makes teachers and students both uncomfortable in teaching and learning. New LCD projectors, OHPs, Computers, and other modes of learning are undoubtedly a boon for students but for the teachers at the age of retirement, its difficult for them to learn all these methods and also they take it for granted to learn now.
Kids are not playing in the grounds because of the stress over them to give 100% result, whereas teachers don’t ask them to play they have to deliver results too. So kids are getting more prone to diseases and lesser in immunity.
“I was traveling by Shatabadi Express to Delhi and it was a run of 3 hours. A man accompanying was continuously talking on the phone for all the way in the journey about his business. Which made me think that if the person is so busy on his phone while on journey, would he be giving time to his kids while at home. And I got the answer myself.”
