Chandigarh, July 20 :A superb knock of 64 runs of 76 balls by man of the match Shubaham Mahajan and excellent bowling by Gurnder and Newab guided Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 to a 185 runs victory over DAV School, Sec 8 in the finals of the Inaugural Oojam Invitaional Interschool Cricket Tournament.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss GNPS, Sec 36 posted a huge score of 262 runs in their alloted 45 overs with the help of a knock of 64 runs of 76 balls by Shubham and a quick-fire 34 of just 22 balls by Anshul at the death. Gourav and Gurinder also chipped in with 37 runs and 31 runs respectively for GNPS. Sahib Mal was the main wicket taker for DAV 8, taking 3 wickets for 41 runs in 9 overs.
Replying to the total of 261 runs DAV School Sector 8, who have performed excellently throughout the tournament to reach this far, were bowled out for a paltry 76 runs in just 26 overs handing GNPS a huge victory margin of 185 runs. Prashant and Rahul were the only two batsmen to reach double figures for DAV 8. Newab and Gurinder, with their excellent bowling, did not give the DAV batsmen a chance to settle at the crease. With wickets falling quickly at both ends and no batsman except prashant being able to handle the bowling, the victory for GNPS was just a matter of time. Newab and Gurinder both ended up with 4 wickets each.
Sh Vivek Atray, Chief Guest for the occasion, gave away the prizes to the winners. Shubham Mahajan was declared the man of the match. Shahnawaz Mirza of DAV 8 was declared the man of the tournament for his superb allround performance throughout the tournament, although he failed to sizzle in the finals. He was presented Rs 1100, a trophy, a medal and a certificate along with an English Willow Bat by Sh Vivek Atray.
The winning team of GNPS, Sector 36 was presented with a cheque of Rs 15,000, a trophy, medals and certificates along with Adidas t-shirts. The runners up team of DAV sector 8 were presented with a cheque of Rs 7,500, a trophy, medals and certificates.
