Pt. Satish Vyas , whose name has become synonymous with Santoor, is an artiste of tremendous range who popularized classical instrument worldwide.
He opened concert with Raga “Bageshri”. He reposefully rendered alap, jod-alap followed by jhala which brought out the inner depth of the raga and touching the listener’s heart. Then followed a couple of gats – vilambit, and drut – set to teen taal, and ek taal respectively where Satish showed his abundant imagination and technical virtuosity in full measure. His every note had something to say of its own and his soft strokes were reminiscent of the graceful tones of his masters.
Satish’s urge for graceful expressions, however, was best displayed during his second Raga “Kirwani”. Madhya and drut bandishes in teen taal provided a fitting finale to the concert.
