Chandigarh, June 30 : General S.F. Rodrigues (retd), Governor of Panjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, inaugurated ‘Aasra’, a shelter for the attendants of the patients at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, here today.
General Rodrigues commended the Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown for its generous support in addressing the need of the people of the community.The shelter built with a polycarbonate sheet roofing and marble flooring with toilets has been built at a cost of Rs.15 lakh by the Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown, informed its President Saroj Jhawar.
‘Aasra’ will accommodate 150 people who can rest there and spend night, explained the past district governor Shaju Peter.The project has been funded through the voluntary contribution of its member Rotarians as well as various philanthropists, he added.
Prof. Raj Bahadur, Director Principal, GMCH, said that this was a much-needed facility in the Sector 32 premises, and thanks to Chandigarh Midtown Rotarians, many people would be able to rest and spend a night safe from the vagaries of nature.
