By Madhup. Chandigarh, 6th Mar: A three day Conference from 6-8th March 2010 is being held at P.U. Campus under the aegis of Association of Indian College Principals (AICP) which was inaugurated by H.E. Sh. Shiv Raj Patil, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh. Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources was Guest of Honour and Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, P.U. presided over the function. Sh. G.K. Chatrath, former Advocate General, Punjab and Chairman of` the Organizing Committee welcomed the dignitaries and appreciated the role of teachers in society. He also lauded the role of Prof. Sobti in taking new initiatives to shape the future of Panjab University,
Prof. R.C. Sobti welcomed the Governor and informed the audience about the education changes being brought out in the Panjab University at a large scale. He also appreciated the developments about introduction of some noble measures like inclusion of seats for single girl child and disabled persons. He highly appreciated the encouragement to Panjab University by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh and Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister for Human Resource and Development by providing ample funds for the development of the University. Prof. Sobti talked about unbound education in the changing world and suggested several innovative measures to bring education reforms. According to him, the teachers must adopt innovative teaching skills and they should be source of inspiration and innovation to the students to increase the interest of students in learning.
Hon’ble Governor, Shri Shiv Raj Patil highly appreciated the efforts of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sobti in introduction of several new measures initiated at Panjab University, Chandigarh by him which will enable the interactions for diverse themes. He also raised many issues regarding reforms in education policies to design the course curriculum in such a way which should go beyond the book to have a large scale practical orientation. He emphasized on spirituality in education and suggested certain steps to reform the courses to help the individuals to be complete human beings. He further suggested that institutes of higher education must focus on original research which should shape the future of the society in a meaningful way. The teachers should develop innovations in their teaching methods to modulate the minds from truth to untruth, death to immortal and darkness to light to understand the purpose of life, as stated by His Excellency, the Governor of Punjab.
The other dignitaries present included – Ms. Anu Chatrath, Mayor, Chandigarh, Prof. S.S. Bari, Registrar, Panjab University, Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia, Dean, Science Faculty, Dr. Kamajit, Organizing Secretary, Dr. (Ms.) Meera Modi, Principal, Dev Samaj College, Shri M.L. Aeri, Member Syndicate, Fellows, Principals of Colleges from all over India.
The Souvenir of the Congress was released by all the dignitaries and mementoes were presented to them by the organizers.
