Chandigarh : On the occasion of May Day, the Tribune Employees Union paid tributes to the martyrs of Chicago in the Tribune lawns here today. Union president Anil Kumar Gupta gave brief history of struggle and sacrifice of the Chicago martyrs who laid their lives for better working conditions of the employees.
Gupta demanded that the government should abolish the contract employment system. He also demanded regularization of employees to safeguard their interests. The union criticized anti-labour policies of the government. He briefed the employees about pension policy in the light of the latest honorable Supreme Court verdict.
He said the newspaper industry is facing a tough competition from digital and electronic media. Earlier, Blawinder Jammu, General Secretary of the union, Balwinder Sipray, Sushil Kumar Tiwari, Ramesh Sharma and Rajesh Malik also spoke on the occasion and paid homage to Chicago martyrs. A two-minute silence was observed on the occasion.
