CHANDIGARH, MAY 3:Unpretentious Golden Club will meet Chandigarh Football Club in the final tomorrow in the Chandigarh Senior Football Championship for Sher-e-Punjab Trophy being conducted by the Chandigarh Football Association at the Sector 17 Football Stadium at 5 p.m.In semi-final matches played today, Golden Club prevailed over Chandigarh Police Football Club by 2-1 and Chandigarh Football Club defeated Youngsters Club by 5-2.
Akhil displayed his scoring skills as he pumped in three goals.
However, a three-in-a-row feat eluded him as in between Tejinder Singh scored a goal in the 67th minute. After Deepak Hooda had given Chandigarh Football Club the lead with a goal in the 13th minute, Akhil opened his account by foxing the Youngsters defence in the 37th minute. Then he struck two goals in as many minutes. Akhil’s second goal came in the 90th minute and third in the 92nd minutes.For Youngsters, Rajnish Thakur and Gaurav Kaul reduced the margin by contributing a goal each in the 53rd and 76th minutes.
Chandigarh Police FC played a rough game. Their player Ajay Kumar abusived the referee in the second session. He, however, excaped with a yellow card. Two more Chandigarh Police Football players — Ajay Pal Singh and Majid Hussain — indulged in deliberate foul play. They were also booked and shown yellow cards.
In a closely fought semi-final encounter, Chandigarh Police Football Club drew the first blood with Munish booting home a fine goal in the 15th minute. Down by an early goal, Golden Club mostly consisting of Panjab University players, were not disheartened.
They played a cool game with sprightly Jagmohan Singh Negi spearheading the attack. Golden Club started mounting pressure and their moves bore fruits in the 22nd minute as Jagdish caught Chandigarh Police Football Club goalkeeper Mukesh napping. Moving with understanding and quick passes, Golden Club snatched the match-winner through Karan in the 30th minute.
The winners could have scored another goal in the second half. Midway through Shyamlal gave a minus to Karan and Jagmohan Singh Negi also following. Karan uncorked a powerful shot. However, Chandigarh Police Football Club goalkeeper Mukesh anticipated the shot and punched it over.
