CHANDIGARH, APRIL 26:Godrej & Boyce XI defeated Fortis XI by three runs to lift the first Man-Kanwal Memorial Cricket Tournamnet, organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club, at GMSSS-32 here today.
Batting first, Godrej & Boyce XI got off to a fine satrt, as the openers piled up 36 runs for the first wicket in five overs. Therafter, the team lost couple of quick wickets andwere struggling at 57 for 3. However, a 106-run partnership between Charan Amrit (39) and Charanjeet (66, 5x4s, 4x6s) bolstered their innings. Charanjeet’s knock came in 37 balls. The team finished with the scorecard reading 173 for 5 in 25 overs.
In reply, Fortis XI had to cope up with some early loss of wickets, as they lost their openers, with just 19 runs on board. But then, Neeraj and Gurkirat (53, 6x4s) were associated in 87 runs partneship. Rambo got rid off Neeraj, and the team was again in trouble. Vijay Pal scalped 5 wickets for 34 runs. Fortis XI fell short of target by just 3 runs.
