Chandigarh, December 31: During this year, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector -32 has been upgraded in various aspects like by purchasing of latest equipments for installation in hospital, additional infrastructure have been built to facilitate the patients.
From January to November 2010, a total of 385073 patients have been provided medical treatment in the OPD (3397 Patients have been treated in Emergency) and around 32111 patients attended the Emergency OPD and a total of 28241 operations have been done so far.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has sanctioned Rs. 45.56 crores for GMCH 32, Chandigarh, for starting new postgraduate disciplines and increasing postgraduate seats. Besides this the total
seats for annual intake in postgraduate courses (MD/MS) in various specialties’ have been increased by (15) fifteen. Similarly postgraduate course (DNB) has been started in Hospital Administration and
Ophthalmology. The fellowship in the Department of Paediatrics in the name of IAP Fellowship in Neonatology has already been stated w.e.f. January, 2010 with annual intake of 2 seats
The Department of General Surgery has established Ksharsutra Therapy Centre with the grant in aid from Department of AYUSH Ministry of Health, Govt.of India. This Ayurvedic Technique centre is first of
its kind to be established in an Allopathic teaching hospital. The centre is aimed to provide Ksharsutra Therapy in various Ano-Rectal problems. Also the doctors from both the systems i.e. Allopathic as
well as Ayurvedic shall be imparted training in Ksharsutra Therapy.
To reduce waiting time and to make it convenient to the patients display System and Token System for registration of patients in OPD was started in addition to Decentralizations of registration counter done for the OPD of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. In addition to this, for setting up of Mental Health Institute, Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi has created 41 nos. group ‘A’ faculty post in GMCH, Chandigarh and 93 posts of various categories .The Chandigarh Administration has sent a proposal to convert 657 nos.
of outsource posts of staff nurses into regular posts has been taken
up with the GOI.
The construction work of Block-J, Biomedical Research lab is completed. Guest house in sector 48 has been completed and has been inaugurated recently .Jan Aushadhi centre for sale of generic drugs at affordable prices has been started. The Treatment Planning System has been started in the Department of Radiotherapy.
High Dose Rate Brach therapy for the department of Radiotherapy has been purchased in addition to ten new ventilators has been purchased for critical care.
Neonatal resuscitation- cum-open care system, Neonatal Multiparameter, Neonatal Echocardiography, Transport Incubator with inbuilt ventilator facility and Portable Hearing Screening system for the department of Paediatrics have been purchased. Electric plaster cutter and Cannulated Pneumatic Drill & Saw System for the department of Orthopaedics have been purchased. Phacoemulsification system and Synoptophore equipment for the department of Ophthalmology and Automated External Defibrillator for the Department of General Surgery
have been purchased.
Apart from this, the Department of ophthalmology is running a
project in collaboration with State Health Society & Education
Department for assessing the causes of childhood blindness in school
going children of Chandigarh which will help in formulating the
guidelines for the alleviation of childhood blindness. The Department
of Orthopaedics has installed Bone Densitometry (DEXA Scan). The
Dental department has acquired Orothopantogram (OPG) for the full
mouth dental X-rays needed for orthodontic and oral surgery
procedures. Thirteen new chairs are being installed in Dental
Department.
GMCH-32 has also been nominated as State Nodal Agency for Punjab
& Chandigarh for the District Epidemiological Profiling of HIV/AIDS by
the Govt of India with the support of National AIDS Control
Organization and has completed the survey of Punjab & UT, Chandigarh.
Various activities were done by the department of psychiatry like
seven disability camps, training programme for the teachers working
under Sarv-Shiksha Abhiyan for Disability Data Bank Survey, Workshop
on Autism, Postgraduate development programme, Northern Region
Consultation Meeting on Mental Health Act-1987 to propose amendments.
In addition to this, Pre-Hospital Trauma Technician Course with
duration of 9 months has been started from session 2010 with annual
intake of 20 seats. In addition to this various camps and workshops
were held, five days Training of Trainers and Cascade workshop of
“Singapore Indian Group Networking Empowerment Training” was conducted
in May’10 in collaboration with Tamasek Foundation, Singapore .Two
Curriculum Development workshop in Health Care Engineering was
conducted by NITTTR in GMCH-32 in collaboration of Department of
Hospital Administration.
