October 15, 2008: ‘Its a simple act, yet most of us neglect it. We tend to take it lightly, sometimes dismissing it as unnecessary, little realizing its significance. Yet’s teachers & elders advice about handwashing holds true. To take a simple example of Diarrhoea, it causes the death of one child every 30 seconds globally.
However the risk of diarrhoeal infection can be reduced by 47 per cent by the simple process of washing your hands with soap. Every time we scrup our hands clean, killer germs get washed away." said Mrs. Madhu Bahl, Principal, KB DAV Sr. Sec. School, Sector 7, Chandigarh while Inaugurating the Global Hand Washing Day in the School.
Today the School in association with Yuvsatta conducted a special meeting of students for developing initiative on sanitation and hygiene. Mr. Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta sensitized the students on importance of Year 2008 as International Year of Sanitation and October 15th which is being observed as Global Handwashing Day first time in India by Department of School Education and Literacy (DSE&L), Govt of India and UNICEF. He motivated students to practice hand washing before eating and asked students to motivate the parents and community to follow the same because improved sanitation is an essential element to improve the health and welfare of our nation’s children.
A a live demo of handwashing was given to students in School campus and teachers ensured that every child washes his hand and their nails are properly cut before taking meals during interval time in the School.
Later during the day the UNICEF & Yuvsatta organized a meeting of children from Bapu Dham Colony, KB DAV -7 and The Gurukul School at PCA Stadium at SAS Nagar (Mohali). And Mr. Tendulkar gave them tips on handwashing. (International cricket sensation Sachin Tendulkar has joined forces with UNICEF to get Indian children to improve their health and hygiene as part of the first Global Handwashing Day.)
Dear, Parmod please tell me why you choose KB dav school. only to get publicity in media as you should go to slums to educate them about the hand washing . KB dav student are belong to very high family and their teachers are must be teaching them an importance of hand wash. I knew that you are very hard working but , from last 1 year you are going only for the cheap publicity.
