The India Post, Chnadigarh, 2nd Octuber, 2008 :On 7th day of the 10 days NSS camp, the NSS unit of MCM DAV College, for Girls Chandigarh celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by flagging off a rally against the stigma of leprosy. Dr. Manjeet Singh Bains, the Director Health Services, Chandigarh Administration graced the occasion with his presence.
The idea was to spread awareness so as to breakaway from the stigma of leprosy and untouchablity a social cause which was fought for by Mahatma Gandhi. To commemorate his birthday a talk was delivered by Lt. Col. (Dr.) Uma Vasudev on leprosy. Late in the morning various competitions were held for the students such as collage making, bookmark making, slogan writing and poem writing.
The NSS volunteers of MCM DAV College, Sector 36 went to Badheri village to impart information to the children on Mahatma Gandhi and the evil of Leprosy. College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Puneet Bedi expressed her heart full concern for the issue and urged the students to contribute in their full capacity to the cause. The students exhibited full enthusiasm and expressed their willingness towards contributing to the cause.
