By Vivek, Chandigarh, October 10: Veteran singer Jagjit Singh, one of the renowned ghazal singers in Bollywood has passed away at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Monday. He was 70.
Singh was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering a brain haemorrhage on September 23. A Padma Bhushan recipient, Singh’s condition had deteriorated in the last few days and he was on life support. “Jagjit Singh passed away at 8.10 am after having a terrible haemorrhage,” said Dr Sudhir Nandgaonkar, hospital spokesperson. Singh is survived by his wife Chitra Singh, a ghazal and playback singer. The couple lost their son in a road accident in 1990. Singh ruled the ghazal industry for decades and also sung numerous Hindi film hits. He also made his mark in bhajans.
