CHANDIGARH, MARCH 27: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen . (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, PVSM VSM, today visited the restructured Le Corbusier Centre in Sector 19, equipped with a Souvenir Shop of products showcasing the art works of the versatile genius, with the creative qualities of a painter, a sculpture and a great architect.
The walls of this Centre have been adorned with replicas of art works of Le Corbusier including tapestries and paintings, which have also been printed on the showcased products, including T-shirts, Ties, Mugs, Plates, Tiles, Key rings so that tourists coming to the City from all over the world can take back the replicas.
Accompanied by Mrs. Jean Rodrigues, eminent Architects, designers and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration including Home Secretary, Mr Ram Niwas, the Administrator went round the exhibits and took a keen interest in the creative works displayed on the occasion. He appreciated the initiative taken for preserving the legacy and creations of Le Corbusier, by aesthetically exhibiting his artworks including plans, models, paintings, sculptures, tapestries, manuscripts, books, drawings, photographs and other pieces from the collection of the Foundation Le Corbusier.
While interacting with Mr. V.N. Singh, the Nodal Officer of the Centre and other architects and designers associated with this venture suggested the need for organizing workshops for the students and researchers in the field of art and architecture, to take forward the visualized dreams of Le Corbusier and to combine them with the changing needs of the present and the future. He expressed the hope that this endeavour will be helpful in maintaining the architecture concept and basic character of the City along with carrying forward the process of growth and development to match the changing global scenario.
