CHANDIGARH, MAY 11: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, General Dr. S.F. Rodrigues, PVSM VSM (Retd.) today released ‘Golf Destinations’, the first ever coffee table book promoting the tri-city as a Golf Destination at Punjab Raj Bhavan. This 100 page volume aims to promote tourism to the tri-City of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali as well as to give a boost to the game. General Rodrigues, while appreciating the effort of bringing out this beautiful book called for setting up a core team of the Chandigarh Golfers to institutionalize the combined endeavours of Chandigarh Golf Club and Chandigarh Golf Association for harmonious development of the sport. He suggested the need for continuing the process of exchange of Golf Sport events with Pakistan Punjab as well as with India, to strengthen the ties of friendship and to create a climate of trust and goodwill. He also asked the CGC and CGA Presidents to start some programmes for senior citizens in the Golf Club, to develop their interest in the sport.
This collector’s item which has been produced by Ashwini Luthra, President of the Asian Education Society and sponsored by the Chandigarh Golf Club, the Chandigarh Golf Association, the Panchkula Golf Club and the Executive Golf Club, Mohali. The text of this unique keepsake is by the eminent travel writer and editor, Chandni Luthra and the pages full of pictures that turn it into a riot of colours, are by Parvin Singh. The book takes you back to the beginning of golf in the region and on a ‘pictorial’ walk through the challenging courses.
Mr. D.S. Bains, out going President Chandigarh Golf Club said that he conceived the idea of the coffee table book and commissioned the Asian Education Society to come up with a book on golf featuring the whole tri-city, so that it could promote tourism in the region. According to Mr. B.S. Gill and Mr. C.R.S. Reddy, Presidents of the CGC and CGA, who were present on the occasion, said that the sale proceeds of the book will be utilized for the development of Golf as a sport.

I wish more poor people could get trained in sports at subsidised fees.
