Chandigarh, February 7: The recently sanctioned Garden of Springs will be a new beautification project for the southern Sector. The work of clearing the site has started along Sukhna Choe. Chandigarh Administration supported by Ministry of Tourism is all set to promote Garden Tourism as new tourism product for overall development of Tourism in Chandigarh. Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs.311.50 lacs for development of new Garden of Spring in Sector 53 along the N choe at the southern end of Chandigarh adjoining Mohali area.
Chandigarh Administration has taken the lead in beautifying the area along N choe in the vicinity of main highway road linking major towns of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. In this Garden of Springs, new tourism infrastructure shall be created for the visitors. Tourist reception Centre shall be constructed at a cost of about 65 lacs. For the convenience of tourist new parking area shall be constructed along with walkways throughout the Gardens at a cost of over Rs 50 lacs. The Ministry of Tourism has released Rs 50 Lacs for beautification and stone pitching of N Choe passing through this garden so that the area is fully transformed into a major tourist spot.
Chandigarh has treasury of more than 150 species of flowering trees, flowering shrubs and different kinds of flowering creepers which are spread over different areas of Chandigarh. The existing flowering species of plants and trees needs to be showcased and preserved in one garden which is aptly being christened as Garden of Spring in the southern sectors of Chandigarh. This Garden of Spring shall not only provide opportunity to the visitors and tourists to enjoy the flora of Chandigarh but would also support Chandigarh to Garden Tourism as a special new tourism product in Chandigarh.
The special features of the Garden of Spring shall be that the corridors of different flower colours shall be created along with flowering trees shall be planted as per the adoption of colour scheme. The Garden area has natural undulation which shall be retained top plant different species of flowering trees like Cassi trees which are normally found on the northern sector roads (Uttar marg), Chrosia and bombax (Mexican cotton trees found on Madhya marg shall be planted in a specially demarcated area, The orange flowering trees Spathodia (Rain tree) blooming on Vidhya path shall be planted to have a special colour theme affect in the Garden. Popular trees and shrub found in different parts of the city shall also be planted so that these flowering trees and plants in different blooming seasons are always flowering all year around signifying the theme of the Garden- Spring year around.
According to the Secretary Tourism, Sh.Ram Niwas,” The concept of Garden of Springs in sector 53 shall be developed by a team of College of Architecture to make this Garden a major tourist spot in the Southern Sectors of Chandigarh”.
