Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh,15 May, 2008: FXB India Suraksha working with barbers and migrants on issues related to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention independently, organized Barbers meet to give succinct information pertaining to HIV/AIDS and STIs/RTIs to its beneficiaries at Rearhi Market, Industrial Area, Phase II, Chandigarh.
On this occasion Mr. Umesh Baurai, Programme Coordinator, FXB India Suraksha advocated the role of people for community development through all the organs of the society reference is of down trodden / have-nots. He motivated the people to come together to root out various diseases engulfing poor and down trodden people. He also talked about the role of volunteers and established people in community development.
Dr. Kavita Chavan, Deputy Director (STI), State AIDS Control Society, U.T. Chandigarh in an interaction she discussed about HIV/AIDS, its origin, threat and causes. She highlighted details of the disease and precautions required to avoid this disease. She also removed different myths and misconceptions about HIV/ AIDS proliferation. In her talk she stressed upon the role of the community for the rehabilitation of the People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). She also highlighted the various programmes continuing in city related to HIV/ AIDS prevention and STI treatment under NACP-III.
More than 150 people attended the meet and most of them were illiterate and belong to unorganized labour sector. She appreciated the efforts of FXB India Suraksha Volunteers in motivating and zealously bringing down the misconceptions related to AIDS and STIs in unorganized labour sector.
Mr. Raja Ram on behalf of FXB India Suraksha thanked all the participants and resource persons in making this event as a result oriented event as large no of people demanded condoms and voluntarily came for HIV testing.
