Chandigarh ; The fight against drugs continued for the third day on Desh Bhagat Community Radio, with its 100 hour live on-air marathon reaching its half way mark at 11 am on Tuesday. Lot of voluntary effort and round-the-clock on-air activities are going on to make the event a success, as this will earn the Desh Bhagat Community Radio a place in the Limca Book of Records for being the first community radio station to clock 100 hours of live on-air activity.
Dr Zora Singh, Chairman, Desh Bhagat Community Radio said, “The day marked a host of activities at the Desh Bhagat radio station. The radio team was completely floored and overwhelmed to host OBE Parminder Vir, who is a commercially focused board level executive with more than 25 years experience in the creative and media industries. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire for services to the Broadcasting and Film industry in 2002”.
Deputy Director, State AIDS Control Society Mr Sanjay Mittal shared the threat of AIDS due to infected needles with the listeners and exhorted them to be safe. Mr Mittal shared the ways their society was working with drug users to protect them against AIDS.
As a part of 100 hours campaign being undertaken by Desh Bhagat Community Radio, the team reached DAV COLLEGE SECTOR-10, CHANDIGARH & POST-GRADUATE GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, SECTOR-11, CHANDIGARH in the morning to make the college students take a pledge, not to indulge in use of drugs. The response of all the students was very enthusiastic. The team visited various classes during the activity and also interacted with the Principal of the college.
Jaswinder Singh Jassi, the all India General Secretary of National Students Union of India, also joined the Marathon. He urged the youngsters to keep themselves occupied with productive and constructive tasks and shun the habit of drugs. Jassi also urged the government to provide better employment opportunities to the youth, as an empty mind is a devil’s workshop.
