CHANDIGARH: Sept. 23: The Department of Hindi, Panjab University organized a ‘Face to Face’ with well-known Hindi writer Haricharan Prakash, from Lucknow, who is also a civil servant in Uttar Pradesh.
Haricharan has three story collections namely Jivika jiwan, Grihasti ka Ragistar and Upkatha ka Ant to his credit besides a novel ‘Gandarv ka Duswapan’. He has bagged coveted Parivesh Samman and Yashpal Puruskar for his writing talent.
The event started with a story-reading session by Mr Prakash, in which he read his story ‘Chasme ki Vaitarani’ a short-story revolving around complex modern day relationship between ageing parents and their family. This was followed by interactive session with students, research scholars, faculty and the guests. The writer spoke about his life experiences, his vision and on how he started writing, his relationship with society, aims of his literary endeavour, and tensions between his profession and life as a writer. He says his surroundings motivate him to write. He cautioned young writers to write only when there is enough urge and anxiety for that, not for the heck of it. He opined that a writer grows continually. He quoted Premchand in this regard who he says is his ideal, and role model. For a writer, knowledge of history and philosophy is necessary. Every age had is own tregdies and the one of modern Age is its complexity. A writer must have a perspective but it should be flexible. The writer aims at bringing society together and violence has no place in a society as it brings counter-violence.
Ms Poonam Didi, Editor of Preetladi also gave her comments in the programme. Ms Rohini Agarwal, chairperson of department of Hindi MDU, Rohtak and a well-known critic and Mr Desh Nirmohi, former Director of Haryana sahitya Academy were also present on the occasion.
