Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh ,May 31 : Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh State branch organized an Eye Surgery Camp under it’s “Aao Gaon Chalen” programme at Manimajra Civil Hospital, Chandigarh on 30th May 2011. Dr. Charanjeet Singh and Dr. K.S. Rana, Eye Surgeon examined the patients and conducted surgeries. Total of 167 patients were examined during the camp, 26 patients were given intraocular lens implants free of cost and 67 patients were treated for refraction errors.Smt. Bhemi Devi, who was suffering from Cataract from past so many years was very happy after getting this surgery done on her said, “Hum Bahut sukarguzaar hain is sanstha ke jisne mujhe firse aankhein laouta dein”, means that she was very much thankful to the association who enabled me to see again.
Mr. Bharat Bhushan, a local tea vendor, who is suffering from eye infection but was unable to get himself treated as could not bear the cost of medicines, was very jubilant after getting medicines free of cost from the association and was all praises for them.
After getting treated for his refraction errors, Bashir Ahmed said, “I am very happy to be treated and that also without any cost. These type of camps should be organized time and again, so that poor people like us can get good advantage of that”.
Dr. Ramneek Bedi, President of the IMA, said, “That we are into this Noble cause from past 3-4 years and have been helping the underprivileged & poor people, who cannot afford to get such costly surgeries done, by giving them the full medical assistance FREE OF COST. We don’t give just the medicines free but the lenses were also implanted free of costs to all needy”.
Medicines were given free of cost to all the patients from Manimajra, Kishangarh, Maulijagran villages and Bapudham colony. IMA Chandigarh plans to hold such camps in various specialities in different colonies, villages and slums of U.T. Chandigarh under it’s “Aao Gaon Chalen” programme.
