The India Post, CHANDIGARH- SEPTEMBER 01, 2008 : Today, An Eye-Donation Awareness Programme inaugurated by Prof. S.S Bari, Registrar, Panjab University,Chandigarh was held at Senate Hall, Administrative Block.
This event was organised by ‘Tammana’ – a newly born NGO. A team of doctors, headed by Dr.Parul from PGI bestowed a presentation for the spectators. Few students from “The Institute of Blind, Sector 26, Chandigarh also enlightened the programme with their exclusive song on ‘donate eyes’. This event also had the gracious presence of Mrs.Puneet Bedi, Principal, MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, Chandigarh, who herself is an eye-donor, further shared some motivating words with the audience. About 200 forms were distributed, out of which nearly 50% were given to us with pledged eyes. While conversing, the spectators, shared that they today have not only pledged their eyes, but are also convinced to motivate others to gift the gift of sight to the needy. The spectators also witnessed the members of Tammana taking a pledge to live for others and make their lives as examples to others. Additionally, an exclusive performance was made by the music band ‘Living Like Jesus’ which created a thanksgiving aura at the venue.
‘Tammana’ as the word goes has been my Tammana to form a group to live for others. I, Isha Kakaria (President), am proud of my dedicated team of youngsters who include : Neha Bansal(Vice President), Gaurav Bhatia (General Secretary) ,Simon Peter ( Joint Secretary) ,Ankush Arora ( Coordinator) ,Shikha Gupta (Public Relation Officer) and Joy (Executive). Tammana is not just another NGO, but a pledge to live for others.
Today, we might be one of the fastest growing economies in the world. But we also
harbor one-fourth of the world’s blind population. What is even more shocking is the
fact that even though we had about 9,500,000 deaths last year, only 10,000 actually
donated their eyes. It is this kind of indifference that it became Tammana’s
inspiration to bridge the gap between unaware people and the people who are waiting for donors.dThe Eye-Donation Awareness Programme was Tammana’s first initiative and we have many other activities lined up like help to Old age homes, tree plantation and so on, according to Ms. Isha Kakaria, President, Tammana.
Hello Deepak!
Nice to hear from you.
Unfortunately, could not get in touch with you in the specified time period. But glad to know you are involved in the Eye-Donation Awareness.
Though, your play would have taken place, however, following are the answers for your queries.
1. Its only if the family informs of the death, the concerned hospital can take action on Eye-Doantion.
2. Pledging is an encouraging way to create self awareness and spread it too, however, even without pledging the eyes, if the family informs of the death, the hospital will be contended to recieve the gift of sight for someone.
Further, if you provide you more information on the same. You can refer to some helpful links:

We have a play in ITM college Gurgaon, based on blind people,we need eye donation forms(approx 700) and some basic knowledge to answer the donators,
ex:
1: How will the hospital know that donars have pledged their eyes,if their family doesn’t inform at time of donars death?
2: Is it sure that eyes will be donated if donars pledge their eyes?
Our play is in 10 days so do it quickly. Thanks Tammana
Eye donation is one of the best donation . I always motivate people for eye donation. Good effort by Tammana, we wish your success.
