The India Post, Chandigarh, August 25 :Eye Bank Society, Chandigarh organized a function celebrating the 23rd National Fortnight on Eye Donation in the lecture theatre of Advanced Eye Center, PGIMER, Chandigarh, here today. Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra was the chief guest on the occasion.
Mr. Mehra on the occasion inaugurated the refurbished New Eye Bank Facility, which has now been equipped with the finest facilities countrywide at the Advanced Eye Center. Adviser also released a souvenir to mark the occasion.
Eye Bank Society Website was also launched with Adviser becoming the first e-donor. Mr. Mehra on the occasion encouraged the Eye Bank Society, PGI Chandigarh, members of faculty and all the organizers for conducting such an impressive and educative meeting. The sophisticated equipments and facilities available in the center for the procurement and processing of eyes also impressed him.
On the occasion he revealed that only 36,000 eyes were donated in the last year countrywide thus there is a need to educate people for step forward and pay their due share for the noble cause. He also assured of all possible help by the Administration for the cause. Taking his responsibility as Chairman, Eye Bank Society, Chandigarh he called for at least an Annual meeting of all its members.
Adviser on the occasion also presented Award of Appreciation to President, National Association for Blinds, Chandigarh, Mr. Vinod Chaddha, Mr. Khandelia, Mr. Kandhari and Mr. Satish Kaushik.
Director PGI, Mr. K.K. Talwar on the occasion said that the volunteers who donate their eyes should be acknowledged for their noble initiative. Professor and Head of Advanced Eye Center, PGIMER, Dr. Amod Gupta during his address impressed that the center has all the state-of-the-art facilities comparable to any part of the country. Honorary Secretary, Dr. Amit Gupta in his presentation showcased the objectives of this year fortnight and also highlighted the activities of Eye Donation Bank which was established and registered in 1992.
