Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh,1 st, October 2008 : An exhibition of photographs taken by renowned photographer of the region, Navneet Saxena during his extensive travels to various countries began today at the Punjab Kala Bhawan, Chandigarh. Titled ‘Travel Mélange’, the exhibition, the first of the kind by the photographer was inaugurated by Director Tourism & Public Relations, Chandigarh Administration, Mr. Vivek Atray today at Punjab kala Bhawan, Sector 16, Chandigarh.
Mr. Atray on the occasion said "it is an outstanding collection of photographs by a very capable and innovative artiste". This collection of about 50 pictures is strong in bringing together the hues of the world under one roof. One can go on a world tour through these candid pictures at the exhibition. The exhibits have been classified according to the countries the artist has visited. May it be Mauritius, Dubai, USA, Canada or back home at Manali, t he focus of the displays is to bring out the best moments experienced by the photographer wherever he went.
This is an exhibition in which the print quality (the picture making) is as important as the image (the picture taking). Consequently a special mention must be made of the Metallic Paper used to develop these photographs. It is for the first time that this paper is being used by anyone in the region for the complete exhibition. The quality of paper, the print quality complements the outstanding photography of Navneet.
Speaking on the occasion, Navneet said," Through this medium I have tried to put forward a gamut of cultures from different parts of the globe. In each frame I have attempted to infuse my own optimistic approach to life. I hope some photographs find a place in your heart and in your hearth." According to him, though the pictures have been taken on both formats, film and digital, the compositions are untouched, original and not digitally enhanced.
Travel Mélange would be open at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Chandigarh from October 2 to October 4, 10am to 6pm.
