CHANDIGARH- November 28, 2008: The Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies is organizing an Essay Writing Competition in collaboration with Dean Student Welfare on the theme of Kuka Movement. Entries are invited til 2nd December, 2008 from the students of Panjab University Campus and its affiliated Colleges. Essay would be written in Punjabi/Hindi or English language. The first three Essays would be awarded prize money of Rs.1000/-, 750/-, 500/- for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. These, three essays would have the privilege to be published in the Student Magazine of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang convener of the ‘Kuka Committee’ appointed by Vice-Chancellor has told that a variety of programs regarding celebration of 150th Anniversary of Kuka Movement have been planned for evaluating the contribution of Kuka Movement in the freedom struggle of India and their important role in uplifting of the Indian society & culture. Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti expressed his feeling that students and teachers must know the glorious past to seek the right directions for the future path.
Earlier on 25th November a national seminar has also been organized by Panjab University on “Kuka Movement: Historical, Literacy and Cultural-Perspective” and a Photo Exhibition also been organized to show the scarifies and contribution of Kuka Movement in this perspective, according to Chairperson, Dept. of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, PU.
