Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,Nov. 12: On the last day of their visit the 32 members delegation from Yishun Secondary School Singapore visited Bhavan Vidyalaya today. The delegation was given a very traditional welcome by applying ‘Tilak’ on their foreheads followed by a special assembly, invoking the Gods with chanting of the ‘Gayatri Mantra’. Each Singapore student had a ‘buddy’ from the host school to take him around. The day was filled with many interesting activities to keep foreign guests involved. These students attended Hindi and History periods, visited the school labs and library. During the Music and Dance class, they had a glimpse of Indian classical music and saw a mesmerising performance of ‘Kathak’ dance.
“The places of interest in India are very beautiful and the people here are very friendly. I have enjoyed my stay here in India thoroughly,” said Nur Liyana, a student of visiting delegation. Similar views were aired by Lee Chu Hang, who added that the school campus was very similar to her own school in Singapore and she
heartily appreciated the lively dance performances.
A brief cultural programme was also organized especially for them, showcasing the Indian Culture. The guests were seen cheering and applauding the favourite ‘Bhangra’ performance. They also tried to shake a leg on the popular ‘Punjabi beats’. A special lunch was hosted by the school. All in all, it was a day of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ in the true sense.
DPI (Schools) Sh. Pawan K. Sharma also interacted with the students. On behalf of the Education Department he gave the memento’s and Gifts to the students and the teachers. In his address he appreciated the efforts of the Education Ministry of Singapore, Parents and Staff of Yishun Secondary School for exchange of students in this manner. He added that such educational programmes helped the two countries to form a strong bond of friendship and cultural exchange. The delegation left for New Delhi today evening.
