Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh, 9th October 2008 :On the occasion of Dushehra Rohtak town has been benefited by implementation of Rs.18 crore underground power supply system which has enhanced the overall safety level, system reliability and minimized interruptions. The project is first of its kind in the State o Haryana.
Giving details, a spokesman of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam said here today that it was planned to remove the existing overhead 33 KV and 11 KV lines, High Tension/Low Tension lines, distribution
transformers and poles etc. to ensure power supply in the areas concerned through underground cabling system under this pilot project.
The work has been completed on turn key basis in the identified areas i.e. Old Bus Stand to Mata Darwaja Road, Ashoka Mor to Jhajjar Chungi, Jhajjar Chungi to Jhajjar Mor, Gohana Stand to Ambedkar Chowk, Shant Mai to Sukhpura Chowk and Dayanand Math to Mata Darwaja Road. These roads lead to heart of the town to the passangers coming from Delhi, Jhajjar, Jind and Panipat. The Nigam has removed 3 KM overhead 33 KV lines, 12 KM long 11 KV lines, 110 KM low tension lines and feeding distribution transformers.
To give a modern look the power supply arrangement has been made through fully guarded twenty new Package Sub Stations (PSS) set up on safer points, 1050 feeder pillars including streetlight pillars and 250 streetlight poles. Simultaneously, almost 95% of the existing power supply conventional system has been dismantled.
Referring to the new arrangement, he said that the PSS is a compact sub station having 11 KV/bus bar with two insulator and intermediate Vaccum Circuit Breaker with over current and earth fault protection to protect the transformer. This is a fully covered compartment having no effect of rain, spark or windstorm. The new system also minimizes voltage fluctuations and helps reduction in line losses estimated upto 20% with an effective groung earthing system according to PSS experts.
The consumers get electricity through ‘C’ type feeder pillars. One such pillar, on an average, was supplying power to 30 consumers. About 6 to 7 consumers were being fed from one service cable connected with the pillars. In the event of damage of service cable the electricity supply of a small group of consumers is affected. The system also minimizes complaints, pilferage of power by hooking the low tension lines and electrical accidents.
The spokesman further stated that it has played a significant role in beautification of the city as well as plying of vehicles smoothly on these roads.
