CHANDIGARH-July 26, 2011: Dr. Tankeshwar Kumar, Director, Computer Center, Panjab University has been invited to attend the “Joint ICTP-FANAS CONFERENCE ON TRENDS IN NANOTRIBOLOGY” to be held at Trieste, Italy. The aim of the Conference is to bring together scientists from all over the world, active at the forefront of the experimental and theoretical developments of atomic-scale friction. Tribology is a branch often a part of the mechanical engineering departments. The study of tribology is commonly applied in bearing design but extends into almost all other aspects of modern technology, even to such unlikely areas as hair conditioners and cosmetics such as lipstick, powders and lipgloss. Any product where one material slides or rubs over another is affected by complex tribological interactions, whether lubricated like hip implants. Nanotribology is a branch of tribology which studies friction phenomenon at the nanometer scale. The distinction between nano-tribology and tribology is primarily due to the involvement of atomic forces in the determination of the final behavior of the system. Dr. Tankeshwar is to present the work carried out at Computer Center, in which he has shown that softness of the walls of tube in which fluid is flowing can avoid freezing of the liquid. His work has got applications in the area of biological science for devising methods to avoid clot.
In recent years Dr. Tankeshwar (09815991816) and co-workers has contributed significantly in the field of nano-fluidics and his work has become part of books on nanotechnology published from USA. Recently, he has been made honorary member of American Nano Society and also member of Editorial Board of International Journal.
