Chandigarh : Dr. Rameshwar Dutt Sharma was decorated by Sh. Pranab Mukherjee, H.E. The President of India with Rashtrapati Award along with cash award Rs. 5 lac on 17.1.2014 at Rashtrapati Bhawan for his excellent contribution in Sanskrit and Shartras.
Born on 18 January, 1934 at Village Bhaklana, district Hisar of Haryana State, Dr. Rameshwar Dutt Sharma got the degrees of M.A. (Sanskrit) and Ph.D. from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. He had been in Sanskrit teaching profession since the year 1951 to 2005. Subsequently, he has served Haryana Sanskrit Academy as its Director from 2005 to 2011. In addition, he has also been the Secretary of Haryana Sanskrit Sammelan since 1978. 10 published works are to his credit. He has traced 60 rare manuscripts of scholars of Haryana. He edited those manuscripts and published in one of his works ‘Haryana Sanskrit Vrittam.’ He has participated in many National Sanskrit Conferences and presented research papers. In the capacity of Secretary of Haryana Sanskrit Sammelan, he has felicitated many scholars of Sanskrit. He has also organized different literary competitions for the students of Sanskrit. He has contributed a lot in organizing spoken Sanskrit camps for spreading of Sanskrit language to the public. He has been editing and publishing Sanskrit Journal ‘Haripraha’ for the last five years regularly. He has been honoured by several reputed institutes including with the honour of ‘Haryana Sanskrit Gaurav’ conferred upon him by the State Government of Haryana.
Presently, he is holding the position of Vice-Chairman, Haryana Sanskrit Academy, Panchkula and is engaged in the propagation of Sanskrit language.
