CHANDIGARH- March 17, 2009: Dr. Pankaj Mala, Professor of Music in Panjab University has been invited by Kyoto University, Japan at the 14th World Sanskrit Conference to be held at Kyoto from 1st to 5th September 2009. A communication to this effect has been received from Dr. Akihiko Akamatsu (Secretary), 14th World Sanskrit Conference and Professor of Ideological Studies, Kyoto University, Japan.
Dr. Pankaj Mala will be presenting her Paper on “Importance of, “Stobhas” in Chanting of Samaveda”. In this paper an attempt has been made to discuss both technical and philosophical of stobhas in chanting of samaveda with practical illustrations.
As per dictum, ‘Rcyadhudham sama giyate’ enshrined in the chhandogyopanisad (1.6.1), sama was chanted on the base of rc. The word saman neither exclusively denotes a rc nor its chanting, instead it stands for the musical chanting embodied in the rcs. In course of chanting the rc has to undergo many changes and modifications called vikaras. In addition to changing and modifications in rc verses some additional material too has to be incorporated which has nothing to do with verse.
