The India Post, CHANDIGARH- SEPTEMBER 23, 2008: Dr Manjeet Paintal Director Regional Resource Centre for Adult and Continuing Education Panjab University was honoured by His Excellency Gen. Retd S.F Rodrigues, Governor of Punjab and Administration, U.T. Chandigarh for her valuable contributions to the tackling the problems of illiteracy in Chandigrah and Punjab on Monday.
She has played an important role in Net working and Augmentation of activities to combat illiteracy, poverty, ignorance, dropout rate and population explosion. She is actively working for the cause of urban poor in skill development and amelioration of their economic status. She has conducted several Research and Evaluation studies and presented papers at International and National forums.
Dr. Paintal has rich experience of over twenty years in community education and development. She is steering the post graduate course in community education and development introduced by the university from the current session. There is a SSA project for slum children running under her guidance, and an adult education centre in the evenings for the families of the migrant population working at the construction sight of Panjab University .
Dr. Paintal has also initiated the (AFLP) Accelerated female literacy programme for female illiterate Panchayti Raj members at Hoshiapur, Patiala , Bhatinda, Kapurthala. She established life long learning centre in Chandigarh under Population education project. Her reach out activities have become role models of theory and practice in the field.
