CHANDIGARH, MARCH 8 : Deadly bowling Naresh Dhingra (4 for12) and Vijaypal (2 for 11) enabled Godrej and Boyce XI defeat Durga Seeds Private Limited by 39 runs in the inaugural match of the Vth Bharat Kesho Gupta Memorial League Cricket Tournament being organised by the Chandigarh Sports Club here at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium in Sector3 in Panchkula.
Batting first after winning the toss, Godrej & Boyce XI were given a solid start by their openers Jai Kapil (33) and skipper Vaneet Chawla (29) who were associated in 60-run stand in 10 overs. Jai Kapil was unfortunate to get run out in a mess up in the middle. Thereafter Narinder Walia (41) and Manav Asopa (36) held the fort for Godrej. Manav made 36 runs off just 28 balls including 4 boundaries and a towering six. Narinder Walia made 42 runs off 31 balls. He hit four fours Shekhar showed picked up two wickets for 23 runs. Umesh Kaira picked up two wickets for 39 runs. Godrej & Boyce XI finished the innings at 181 for 7 in 25 overs.
In reply, Durga Seeds had a tough job at hand as the bowlers seemed in no mood to let them score freely. The bowlers were spot on in their line and length. Naresh Dhingra was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged 4 for 12. He received good support from Vijaypal who also picked up 2 wickets for 11 runs. Inderjeet and Kulwinder Rambo played their part taking two wickets each and wiped off the tail. Karan topscored with 29 runs. Shekhar made 21 runs. Durga Seeds were bowled out for 148 runs in 23.2 overs.

In another match HDFC Bank XI defeated Glacier Enterprises by 47 runs. Batting first, HDFC Bank had an early scare as they lost their star opener Gurinder Saini early on at an individual score of 21 runs. HDFC were under pressure for the better part of the inning but a late surge by Chandan (47 off 21) helped the team get to a respectable score of 170 in 25 overs. His innings was studded with 8 fours and remained unbeaten till the end.
In reply, the batsmen of Glacier Sporting were no match for the HDFC bowlers as their inexperience showed. Inder was the highest run scorer for Glacier as he made 31
