Chandigarh,26 May:India Today in its annual survey of academic excellence of colleges and universities spread across the country has ranked the local DAV College number 1 in Science and Commerce streams and No 4 in Arts in the region: Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh (Union Territory).
The survey report published in the 2 June 2008 issue places DAV College, Chandigarh at No 18 in Commerce and No 23 in Science at the All India level. As per last year’s survey college ranked 46 in Commerce and 29 in Science at the National Level. This is surely a matter of pride .Principal Dr B.C.Josan felt extremely delighted to read the report and congratulated the members of the staff and students who worked diligently throughout the session. Former Principal Dr S. Marriya, in whose tenure, the survey was conducted said with great satisfaction, “ Genuine work never goes unrewarded. With the kind of dedicated faculty it has this college is sure to go higher and higher in years to come.”He shared his joy with Principal Josan, members of the DAV College Managing Committee and his former colleagues and friends.
India Today commissioned the services of A C NIELSON- ORG- MARG to determine the rankings. Research was conducted to generate the list of colleges for the survey and secondary data sources like the Internet, published reports and the Association of Indian Universities Handbook were used. Suggestions from experts were also included. To calculate the final score, more than 800 experts at the level of principals , heads of departments and deans in 12 cities – Ahmedabad,Bengalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kochi, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune – were contacted in the months of February, March and April this year. The five parameters on which colleges were ranked are i) reputation of the college ii) quality of academic inputs iii) student care, iv) infrastructure and v) job prospects. The mood of the students and staff is jubilant and celebratory. Naturally so.
