Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,Feb. 03 : This years CBSE School’s Tennis Nationals were held at Dubai, UAE, in which in all 50 School teams participated out of which 42 were Indian School Teams and 8 were CBSE approved Dubai Based School Teams. DAV School Sector 15, Chandigarh was the school to be crowned as the king of the CBSE School’s National Tennis Championship. The Championship was in the category of Under – 14 & Under – 19, in which DAV – 15 were adjudged as the Overall Champions as they not only bagged the Team event but also the individual Gold.
In the Individual category, DigVijay Singh won the Gold by defeating fellow Indian from Chennai, with a straight sets 6-1, 6-0, win in finals; whereas in semifinal Digvijay defeated a boy from the CBSE school of Oman in straight sets and booked a seat in final.
In the team event of Under – 19, DAV -15 team defeated the team of Oman by 2-1 sets and booked a straight clash with St. Xavier’s School, Jaipur, in finale. Though it was a tough fight up against St. Xavier, Jaipur, but DAV – 15 team made it a cake walk by defeating Xavier in straight sets, 2-0, to clinch the Under – 19 champions crown.
In the team event of Under – 14 also went to DAV- 15 as they defeated Andhra Pradesh, 2-1 to prove their supremacy in the tournament. The principal, Ms. Rakesh Sachdeva, of the DAV School, Sector 15, Chandigarh was in a jubilant mood and congratulated the students on their achievement. She said that, “I am very happy with the performance of the Children and congratulate them on their achievement. They have brought laurels to our school and have made a history”. She also said that Digvijay will definitely shine in the individual event and would love to see him play of the country.
