Sensitizing the youth about Blood Donation and the need to get tested for Thalassemia is very essential both for the Society and for protecting families from the dreaded disorder, Thalassemia, which can be prevented by knowing your status regarding being a “carrier” of the disease.
It is determined by just one blood test!
While “carriers” themselves are healthy people, 2 “carriers” can produce a child with the full-blown disease. This means blood transfusion for the rest of the child’s life to keep it alive, as this disorder, prevents the production of adequate blood cells in the child’s body.
Being aware can save a lifetime of misery for the child as well as the family.
