30 Aug : As every year, Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association has planned a month long programme, as a build-up to Senior Citizens’ Day on 01 October 2010.
Addressing media-persons today Brig. Keshav Chandra, President of the Association, said that the programme was designed to involve not only older persons but also other age groups, from all sections of society, and was aimed at sensitising the community to the special needs of senior citizens – physical, economic, social and psychological – while demonstrating their relevance to society.
For people living in the colonies, there will be a socio-medical camp at Mauli Jagran where besides medical, dental and ophthalmological care of all age groups by renowned hospitals of the Tricity, social welfare needs of citizens will be addressed by the Administration. Four other medical camps are also being held in different parts of the city.
Two cultural events, including Mel Jol with residents of all Old Age Homes in the city, are planned.
Senior citizens have been invited to interactive sessions in Moti Ram Arya and St Stephen Schools. In addition, all other schools will be holding special functions on th eve of Seniors’ Day.
Chandigarh Police plan to organize the annual “Walk for Fun” at Sukhna Lake followed by interaction with IG Police.
The annual Inter-College debate is being organized by DAV College, Sector 10.
The Senior Citizens’ Day Function will be held on 01 October where Sh Shivraj V Patil, Governor Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh (UT), has been invited to be the Chief Guest and at which he will honour approx 20 senior citizens in different service related categories.
Sh Shivraj Patil is expected to visit the Socio-Medical Camp at Mauli Jagran, flag off the “Walk for Fun” and be the Chief Guest on 01 October 2010.
