Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh , Jan 24 : It was a Friendly Cricket Match played between Alumni of Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 Chandigarh Called SEGUNS, and current School team at the school Grounds, on Saturday. GNPS Alumni members – SEGUNS – got together on a bright sunny day geared up in Cricketing moods and high spirits for a friendly Cricket Match against the students of Guru Nanak Public School. After winning the opening spree i.e. toss, SEGUNS elected to bat and scored 145 runs in their allotted 20 overs and set the target as 146 for current school team to win. The top scorer for the SEGUNS were Simrat Bawa with 51 runs ; 6 fours and Manveet Johar who scored quick 25 with one Six and 3 fours. The forty plus team fought hard by giving school team a run for their money and took the match to a nail biting finish before succumbing to the last over hue n cry leading to a four wicket defeat at the hands of the young brigade. School Team won the Match by four Wickets. Simranpreet was declared man of the Match. The Playing eleven for the alumni were, Surinder Teja (C), ADS Sukhija (VC), Manveer Johar, Cherry Saluja, Kamaljit Gill, Harinder Singh, Sanjay Yashroy, Amrit Pal, Simrat Bawa, Gaurav Puri, Sunny Amandeep.
The highlights of the day were two events ; first one was the wittiest style of commentary by SEGUN Vikas Cuccria, who not only boosted the moral of his fellow beings but also entertained the spectators and clean bowled them with his hilarious deliveries. Vikas Cuccria’s co commentator was vice Principle of the School, Ms.Satnam Kaur. The other event was the TUG OF WAR , between SEGUNS vs Staff Members, in which the SEGUNS registered a thumping win by winching the staff members out of their territory. Principal Gurnam k Grewal, thanked the alumni members for their efforts and overwhelming participation in organising the event.
The guest of Honour, S. Mohinder Singh – Cricket Coaching Legend, along with Principal and the president of the Alumni, Harpal Ranauta, presented the trophy to the winning team. The event was greatly appreciated by the alumni members which attracted old students from as far as Bombay to come and participate in the match. It was The Cricket Match which took the Old Students Down the Memory Lane some 25 years, back to school, reviving those days spent in the campus. The old students gathered were ranging from 1978 batch to 2006 batch.
