Chandigarh : Each year around the world, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society observed several activities in the City Beautiful to celebrate this day in collaboration with the partner NGOs of Chandigarh SACS. The day was observed to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women under the theme of “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures”.
Dr. Vanita Gupta, Project Director, Chandigarh SACS said that if every International Women’s Day event held in 2012 includes girls in some way, then thousands of minds will be inspired globally. United Nations International Women’s Day theme “Empower Rural Women – End Hunger and Poverty” was truly the motive behind various events organized by the partner NGOs of Chandigarh SACS.
To mark the International Women’s’ Day, Society for Social Health (SOFOSH) under TI Project organized a program at Ramdarbar today on 7th March 2012. More than 125 young women and girls of the area attended the program.
Mrs. Kamaljeet Saini President SOFOSH while inaugurating the program told there were only 850 women per thousand men. She stressed on education on and vocational training of women for self-reliance. She also told that the government has taken women issues very seriously and many schemes are announced from time to time.
NGO Yuvsatta observed the programme at Bapu Dham Colony. 110 females and girls of Bapu Dham community participated in the programme. Mr. Naresh Kumar, Councilor of Sector-26, chaired the programme. He informed the gathering about government schemes for women running in Bapu Dham colony.
NGO Indian Public Health Association observed the Women’s Day at Indira Colony. Interactive talks to make women aware of their rights. Messages to protect oneself from the menace of HIV were also discussed during the event.
Information, Education and Communication material was distributed during all these events.
